In Which I've Been a Bad Blogger...

The last few days I've been suffering from severe back pain. Being broke and not having health insurance preclude me from actually going to a doctor to find out why so I've been suffering at home and haven't been in much of a reading or blogging mood. In fact, to be perfectly honest, yesterday saw me parked on the couch in agony watching the first season of Torchwood which I had kept meaning to get into after I had finished catching up on the last six seasons of Doctor Who so that Don and I could watch the new season together. I'll probably be doing more of the same today.

We'll be back to regularly scheduled bloggy goodness when I stop feeling like a ninety-year-old.

  1. How are you enjoying Torchwood?

The first couple of episodes I saw (when it first hit tv screens here in Aus) didn't really float my boat, but I found myself really enjoying it when I went back to it a year or two later. I think it was because of how different it was from Doctor Who but also very samey...if that makes sense?!

    1. There are episodes that I really like and then there are episodes where I end up going "Wait...did that just happen? Seriously?" The cast is interesting. Insanely flawed characters doing a difficult job always leads to fun development, but I don't think the writing is at all on par with Doctor Who...or most other British shows that I've liked. I'm in the second season now, about halfway through. After this I think I'm going to watch Farscape. I've been told that I need to do that.

    2. The third season (i think) which was a 5 ep mini-series about the children was (mostly) exceptional, but I completely agree with the hit and miss nature of the show. I think it's because it's skewed for adults, but still has a Doctor Who flair which just doesn't quite gel. I'm pretty sure that's why I had so much trouble getting into the show, the first couple of episodes were very jarring for me.

I haven't heard too much about Farscape, I just devoured Fringe and am looking for a new show.

    3. My friend Emily loved Torchwood and kept raving about it, but I guess my issue is that sometimes the characters are downright unlikeable and some of the episodes feel forced. I'm going to finish watching it because I like it well enough and because the second season has been better than the first, but I would agree with you that it doesn't quite reach its goal of being an adult Doctor Who.

I keep hearing that I need to watch Fringe but I haven't gotten around to it. It's really rare that I'll actually sit down and watch tv, although I'll admit that I've been doing it more since Don and I got together.

  2. I always feel so awful for people with back problems because it seems random and so painful and boo :( Hope you're feeling better soon!!

    1. The weird thing is that I don't usually have back problems so I spend the last few days being all paranoid about it. LOL
