Mail!

I left my apartment this afternoon to find a package lying on my doorstep. In it were these:

They were scheduled to come in on the 8th so I was pleasant-ly (ooh, see what I did there) surprised to find they'd come in already. This, of course, means that I'll be rereading and reviewing the first three books in the series before reading and reviewing these books.

For those of you who hadn't heard of the series but who were interested in it, stay tuned for these reviews because I'm going to try to squeeze all five books in this month.

  1. Yay! I am so excited for you. Both are very good but Mortal Coil is probably my favourite. I seem to say that for every new one that comes out. Sadly I have to wait for the publisher to move itself and bring out the next one.

  2. That's the way that I felt about books one and three. For some reason, I just wasn't as into Playing with Fire as I was with the others. I'll be rereading it again in a few days so we'll see what my second impressions of it are.

At least the publishers bring out the books where you are. I can't explain it but for some reason the U.S. stopped selling them after book three. Even on Amazon! Which is why I had to buy them from jolly old England. Some day when I move to the UK, I'm going to walk into a bookstore, march over to the children's section, and hold aloft a new Skulduggery book and it will feel glorious.

Okay, yeah, I have strange goals. Don't judge. :D

  3. Sounds like his US publisher only had rights for the first three and didn't want to try and extend it. That happened to Tamora Pierce with her UK publisher. Hate it when that happens. Can't believe they wouldn't want to continue with it. It's such a funny series. I love them.

I cannot judge you at all. I have been known to snatch the latest skulduggery off the shelf and hug it.

  4. The other thing is that I'm pretty sure the books were optioned to Warner Bros., which I think is an American company. You'd think that if they were thinking about making a movie, they'd want people to, I don't know, actually know what the movie was about.

  5. That is odd, that Warner Bros have the movie rights and yet they have stopped publishing in the US. If they get round to making the movies they would probably start publishing again. Would be stupid not to. It could be that the authors agent doesn't like the contract they were offered and so refused them the rights. Doesn't sound likely though.
