Not Sure How I Feel About This Article...

Here's an article from NPR about how we have become a society that enjoys fragments instead of entireties.

I for one actually read entire books (shocker). Are you one of the supposedly few who still do? And what do you think about this article? Leave your thoughts in the comments.

  1. I think the article was right about a majority of people just wanting the highlights. I'm guilty of skimming some required, work-related reading, but if it's something I'm reading for pleasure, I read every single word

  2. I think my biggest issue with it is that this article seems to be suggesting that *that's* the reason for all of the troubles that Borders is having. I agree that people skim and look for the highlights (six years in college has proved that to be an effective way of reading for class) but I disagree that this is a bigger problem than, say, the economy or e-books.

Thanks for the follow, by the way!

  3. It's always nice to blame the unwashed (or should the be illiterate) masses, but I agree taht Borders' problems have nothing to do with readers who occassionally skim and everything to do with poor business decisions.

As you can tell, I'm not at all bitter because my local Borders store is closing. :-)

  4. I feel your pain. We have several in my area and all by two are closing. Thankfully (and this is not to pour salt into your wound) the two that are remaining open are the closest ones. It's only a matter of time, however, before they're all gone. :(
